  1. 6th grade
    Lesson #1
    Topic: UKraine

    1. I brought a poster to the lesson. Students tried to guess what did I have. They used grammar structure: Is it a poster? Is it a map?
    2. One-by-one students told one fact about our country: Ukraine is a big country. Kyiv is the capital of Ukraine
    3. We spoke about the territory of Ukraine, 24 regions, tried to find Crimea, Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
    4. Played the game "Where will I spend my summer holidays". One student came out to the blackboard, where the map was, closed his or her eyes and put the finger on the map. He or she had to write in English the name of the spot at the map. Пирятин - Pyriatyn, etc.
    5. Teacher explained the rules of the transliteration
    6. 4-5 students pointed some towns on the map with their finger and later each of the students had to write any Ukrainian towns or villages in the copy-book. Teacher was counting to 60.
Next step - 60 seconds, students were working in pairs, coping names of the towns from each other.
Last step - 120 seconds, students were working in groups of four. They had to write region centres.
    7. Teacher presented the idea of the project
    8. Homework - bring an empty postcard with town view

    1. At the beginning of the project students were given handouts to fill in. They marked our partner cities/towns on the map of Ukraine and filled in the chart about them including the information about location, population, places of interest, famous people and interesting facts.

  2. One of our English lesson was a Geography of Ukraine lesson.
We tried to find all those small towns and big cities on the map of Ukraine and pinned them.
    It was not so easy.

By the way, looking for Cherkasy and Zaporizhzhia, we had an opportunity to talk about the Dnipro river and about the водосховище reservoirs. I told children about hundreds of villages which have disappeared under the water. And about the churches crosses, which sometimes appear from the water. It was absolutely new for them. They were asking and about the cemetries and graves and about Remembering Mondays (Поминальні понеділки).
    Quite strange feelings
